The word “superstar” evokes a very specific emotion. We know it when we hear it. And we can immediately recall people that we know who are superstars. Perhaps these are work colleagues, family members, or some public figures. But what does being a superstar actually mean? Is it fame? Fortune? Both? The Superstar Agenda conceptualizes the meaning of superstar around creative self-actualization and productivity. Superstars exhibit an amplified individuality that arises when a person’s natural creative expression, daily activities, and his or her environment are in sync. Ultimate resonance between these factors unlocks your Superstar Agenda.
The first order of resonance is between an individual’s natural creative predisposition and his work or craft (“micro-resonance”); and, the second order of resonance happens when broader environmental factors are added to the equation (“macro-resonance”). The Superstar Agenda first raises a reader’s awareness of what natural creative expression is and what that means for the activities the reader should be performing on a daily basis. In order to truly accomplish micro-resonance, an individual must first understand how he or she prefers to inherently create as an artist. Do you like to create with your hands in 3D? Do you like to create through movements with your body in the way a dancer would? Do you prefer to work with words and weave them into oral narratives? Every person has a dominant artistic archetype and related sub-archetypes. These artistic archetypes combine with one’s upbringing to create an idiosyncratic form of natural creative expression. Natural creative expression is an individual’s idiosyncratic preference to create. This innate impulse is a combination of inherent artistic preferences as well as experiences in nurture.
Once a reader understands her natural creative expression, the next step is to know what that means for the role she should be engaging in on a daily basis. The emphasis here is not job titles but rather the actions that a person would be executing on a daily basis. Synchronicity between natural creative expression and the daily activities in a role results in elevated effectiveness, fulfillment, and performance that is recognized as generally top notch. But you’re not a superstar yet. To unlock your amplified individuality, you need to be in an environment that amplifies your creative attributes and daily activities. Environmental factors include the actual physical layout of the spaces that we inhabit on a regular basis, the attributes of culture carriers in organizations and social systems, and the interpersonal interactions throughout the course of work.
Finally, The Superstar Agenda addresses ancillary but crucial factors that are integral to attaining and maintaining complete resonance. The reader will learn to avoid “resonance disaster”: the phenomenon that happens when one is surrounded by people who are too similar to you and don’t offer sufficient checks and balances. Resonance disaster is why glasses break when soundwaves are applied at the right frequency but for too long. The reader will learn to work through “growing pains” that may not be a sign of discord but that are typical in certain roles and industries (e.g., there may be a requisite period of getting up to speed on the technical aspects at a new job). And what about family, sex, drugs, and religion? Personal relationships and social factors play a crucial role in advancing or stifling creative self-actualization.
Ultimately, mastering your Superstar Agenda lies at the heart of resonance between your natural creative expression, what you do on a daily basis, and the environment that you inhabit. Further to that, learn to manage certain mitigating circumstances, identify some overall issues that you care about, and you’re on your way!
